Countless market visits and journeys too many villages, homes and ceremonies have set the foundation to bring to you a part of Bali’s delightful culture that is extremely difficult to find. No effort has been spared in creating a place of discovery, friendliness and comfort. The many visits into villages, homes and temples, together with an endless drive in researching deeper into the food culture of Bali have resulted in several highly acclaimed publications by Heinz von Holzen the Godfather of Bumbu Bali. Paon – Kitchen, The heart of the restaurant
The kitchen is usually a fairly simply structure, normally located in the southern part of the home compound. Earthen charcoal-or wood burning stoves are built along the rear wall and pots and pans are slung overhead. Traditionally there would also be a large earth ware water-storage jar, though a piped in water supply is more common in most areas today. Without question this is the heart and soul of Bumbu Bali. Here our long time trained kitchen team carefully prepare all the delicious meals for our hungry visitors.

Since opening Bumbu Bali, Restaurant & Cooking School in 1997 we have been awarded numerous times as one of the leading restaurants in Bali. Strangely enough after 14 years we are still the only authentic Balinese restaurant in Bali. Unfortunately in Bali’s mythic culture eating is very much a solitary affair, and locals mostly just eat to fill their bellies. Then the fact that Indonesia in the past did not manufacture ceramic prevented people from serving food as the Chinese did for millenniums. We take incredible pride in presenting to you Bali’s food culture in its original authentic way. The only alterations we do is in the presentation, as we take only the finest ceramics the island’s artisans produce.
