GUIDELINES FOR TURTLE HATCHERY

General
It is the aim of this little manual to explain with as little words and
drawings as possible of how simple it is to save and hatch turtle
eggs. The guidelines included are based on results we have had
in Bumbu Bali over the passed five years. An isolated beach where
the eggs could be buried in their natural surrounding would certainly
be ideal. However on islands like Bali, where poachers, hotel
developments and tourism destroy more and more natural nesting
beaches, this system seems to be ideal.
By using simple sketches and very few words even fisherman’s and
people with very little education will understand the important steps
to be successful. This first version has been written in English and
Indonesian.
The design of this manual includes the draft for a flier, which can
easily be photocopied and then be distributed among local markets
and the fishing community.
Some critics might say that our method encourages additional harvest
of eggs and are scientifically wrong. However our way proves that
in the long term we are able to educate the community and together
can see some terrific results.
Should at any time you have further questions, and require additional
information, then please do not hesitate to contact myself or Pak Made
directly at your earliest convenience.
Wishing you and your friends lots of fun in this caring project.
Together we can ensure that our grand children still will see this
lonely wanderers of the oceans in nature and not only in nature books
under the section.
